REEFS, TRIBES, & BIRDS OF PARADISE

04-27 MAY 2026  •  26 DAYS  •  14 GUESTS

Papua New Guinea is a name synonymous with the exotic and wild. A country with immense cultural and biological diversity, it remains vastly untouched by the modern world. This magnificent land features towering mountain peaks, smoking volcanoes, impenetrable rainforests, exotic cultures, and vibrant tropical seas home to some of the best diving and snorkeling on the planet. Wild Earth Expeditions invites 14 adventurers to delve deep into the mysteries of this magnificent land, exploring ancient living cultures, remote regions, and some of the world's most pristine coral reefs.

Embark on a journey through the Papuan Highlands and the remote Sepik River Basin, where ancient traditions endure amidst breathtaking landscapes. Traverse dense tropical rainforests alive with unique wildlife and vibrant birds, including several species of birds of paradise. Along the way, encounter the rich cultural diversity of Papua New Guinea’s indigenous tribes, culminating in the vibrant Tumbuna Festival—a vivid celebration of the island's cultural heritage recounted through song, dance, and traditional displays.

At the heart of the Coral Triangle, Papua New Guinea’s remote reefs boast over 600 species of coral and 3,000 species of fish, offering some of the most extraordinary underwater experiences on the planet. Spend 10 days exploring these rich marine environments on a bespoke itinerary through the Bismarck Sea. Aboard a privately chartered yacht, you’ll discover the untouched beauty of Kimbe Bay, the diverse ecosystems of the Witu Islands, and the offshore wonders of Fathers Reefs, where pelagic species and stunning reefscapes create an underwater paradise.

This ultimate expedition offers a rare opportunity to step back in time and experience the unspoiled wonders of Papua New Guinea, where the magic of nature unfolds at every turn.

RESERVE MY SPACE & ENQUIRIES

You've got that "I don't want to miss out" feeling for a good reason. Our expeditions are life changers and we have a solid following of Wild Earth Explorers who love returning to adventure with us. Don't hesitate in reserving your space today.

A huge thank you to the Wild Earth team for making my 5th WE expedition so special. We saw and experienced so much in one of the few remaining truly wild places in the world. It is hard to pick the best part – perhaps the sensory overload of the Goroka Show, or learning about the culture and way of life of tribes in remote villages along the Sepik river, or the fantastic snorkelling in pristine waters. It was lots of fun and laughs travelling with new Wild Earth Explorers and being reunited with old ones. I can’t wait to share my next adventures with the Wild Earth Expeditions family!!

M/V SEPIK SPIRIT

The Sepik Spirit navigates the Karawari and Krosmeri Rivers, accessing the mysterious Blackwater Lakes. The dense riverbanks of the Karawari contrast with the wide-open Blackwater Lakes, both rich in birdlife and perfect for photography. Capture scenes of daily life: men on clan benches, children paddling to school, and women fishing while tending clay fireplaces.

Engage with villagers to learn about rituals, warfare, initiation ceremonies, and ancestral beliefs. Visit men’s houses, spirit houses, and family homes, and explore markets offering tribal art like masks, flutes, and spirit figures.

Our privately chartered M/V Sepik Spirit is a 30-meter vessel with a 10-meter beam, featuring three levels: lounge, dining room, and bar on the first floor; nine rooms with private bathrooms on the second floor; and staff quarters and an observation area on the third floor. Fully air-conditioned, the boat asks guests to use water sparingly. Touring is done via a smaller jet boat, and low river levels may require negotiating muddy banks.

M/V OCEANIA

Discover the MV Oceania, a state-of-the-art liveaboard dive vessel navigating the vibrant waters of Papua New Guinea's Bismarck Sea. Recently refitted for modern comfort, this 27-meter catamaran features 8 spacious, air-conditioned cabins on the main deck, each boasting en-suite facilities and offering stunning ocean views. Expertly guided excursions unveil some of the world's richest marine environments within the coral triangle. Immerse yourself in the dramatic volcanic reefs of Kimbe Bay, uncover the diverse ecosystems of the Witu Islands, and venture to the offshore Fathers Reefs, celebrated for their breathtaking underwater landscapes.
